HACCP certification – what it means to you

What is HACCP?

Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) is an internationally recognised systematic approach to food safety. It identifies, evaluates, and controls potential hazards throughout the food production process and is underpinned by seven principles:

The importance of HACCP

As well as being a highly effective approach to pest control, many of our industry’s customers are legally bound by HACCP principles and proactively seek suppliers that also know, understand and conduct their services using the framework.

HACCP's focus on risk management, proactive measures, and documentation gives clients confidence that their pest issues will be addressed professionally and responsibly. It is an effective way of communicating a commitment to customer safety and quality assurance, as well as demonstrating compliance with regulation.

The importance of HACCP certification

While it takes knowledge, experience, and skill to be an effective pest controller, the tools are also key. HACCP certified products, such as Harmonix Rodent Paste, K-Othrine Partix and Maxforce Quantum, are intentionally and independently recognised for their performance and suitability for use in non-food zones.

Certification is not easy to achieve with product data sheets, allergy statements and more being scrutinised. They must prove they are a critical contributor to food safety and demonstrate that they support the integrity and safety of food as demanded by consumers, the industry and regulators.

Harmonix Rodent Paste, for example, contains the active substance cholecalciferol which is highly effective on all target rodent species, even those with resistance to more traditional rodenticides. It has a wide application allowance on the label, which means it can be used in a range of situations from indoors and around buildings to outdoor open areas and waste dumps.  It’s also approved for direct application into rat burrows. The stop-feeding effect means up to 50% less bait can be used effectively.

K-Othrine Partix also offers pest controllers flexibility while significantly reducing active substance levels in the environment. It has the power to control a broad spectrum of crawling insect pests such as ants and with the active ingredient’s large particle size, it’s prevented from being absorbed into surfaces like wood and concrete. This increases the contact with insects, eliminating them quickly.

It's Maxforce Quantum’s longevity which makes it particularly effective where HACCP principles are applied. The exclusive bait matrix technology rapidly controls all major ant species, is quick and easy to apply and remains effective for up to three months.

But it’s not just the products that are proven to be highly effective. In gaining HACCP International certification, Envu as the manufacturer has proven it is proactive and dedicated to consumer food safety.

As a result, pest controllers using HACCP International approved products can be confident in the product's performance as well as suitability for application in non-food zones, and are well equipped to support the food industry in its mission to provide safe and nutritious food for consumers.
